The Tourist (olen steinhauer)

The book concerns

A middle age

Un-spectacular.

CIA- inclined slugger.

Charles Alexander, so called.

He passes a distant

Airport

As if he were rolling out of bed.

Alerts no facial recognition toy.

And postures as if sight-seeing.

He has connection to a

Higher-up who bags

data and photos from

another higher-up.

Unattractive

She, Bertha, plays the eccentric sleuth

Tourist Locked away until

Satisfactory passwords issue.

She also plays her own

Side games that others

Pretend are going un- noticed.

Tax happy bank in Virgin Islands.

Balance building.

Has also killed a couple

Of yay-teamers who tried

To apply the screws.

Now our Tourist

Equipped with information

Finds his prey

And pops him without emotion

Or much struggle.

Small Luger, injection,

Restraints and arson.

One heavy fast errant car.

Interesting menu of options

To snuff.

Back to a different nation

And its airport.

Smuggled by friends

Border cross via

Unfenced mountainside road

Too narrow.

Or parching desert.

Job done.

Thank you Tourist.

But what if many

Higher-ups have soured

Now hating Uncle Sam

And his methods?

Is our Tourist friend

On level ground?

Does he have regrettable

Currency on them?

Milo Weaver is a "Tourist" for the "Company," an undercover agent for the CIA. And he's a good one. Known as the legendary Charles Alexander, Milo's time in service has exhausted him and suicide is contemplated daily. After an especially tough case in Venice that leaves him shot, Milo decides to say good-bye to his old world and take a desk in New York to start a new life with his new wife, Tina, and their daughter, Stephanie. When an old friend is labeled as a treasonous double agent, Milo has no choice but to clear his friend's name and his own by going back to the undercover life he left six years ago.

I consumed this book years ago on summer holiday near Georgian Bay with Hilary.
