Old Eagle in constraints

 



He brought the bird, wounded

Into the yard.

Chickens, ducks scattered noisily.

The raptor stayed silent.

Keen eyes fixed.

Lloyd pegged a rope into the ground 

Gave captive a seven foot radius.

Pacing, pacing

Often gazing upward.


Third day Lloyd saw her.

Female, life’s partner.

Could the male work his way free.

Otherwise the loving one

Would swiftly swoop and kill.

High skies or else.


Ducks were another’s business.
